Wastegate Actuator Rod Rattle

The actuator is a boost actuated diaphragm inside a canister with a rod sticking out as shown below.

This caused the turbo to not have much boost. I adjusted it counting the of turns and got the slack out. So i adjusted it back. The bulletin 21 10 01.

I had a small rattle at about 2000 rpm and traced it to the turbo actuator rod. Just got a call from vw today saying they have a fix. Called the dealer and set up an appt. This rattle can occur on start up while idle or while accelerating from 1800 3000rpms.

Wastegate actuator rod rattle solved 06 24 2011 03 29 pm 74. The rattle is caused by the wastegate actuator rod rubbing back and forth on the wastegate and can be quite annoying. Unfortunately this is just a manufacturing fault. I have the 2010 jetta wolfsburg.

Now as the tsb above states vw only covers 2008 2010 mk6 gtis. Boost pressure is applied to the canister and once the boost is higher than the spring pressure inside the canister the wastegate actuator rod starts to move and open the wastegate.
